About the event

About our Course:

Organizations, including schools, hospitals, universities, and other people centered organizations, are normed to the desired approaches of the dominant group. We must take a culturally relevant approach that attends to the cultural needs of all children, families, and colleagues. Yet, we must equitably seek, and center marginalized people's preferred communication and interaction styles. How can we ensure that our work is engaging people at the most dangerous intersections of race and other marginalized identities in our human diversity(homophobia, ableism, transphobia . . .)?  Participants will gain introductory practice with the Racially Conscious Collaboration framework for cultural relevance.

About our Facilitator/Director of Education:

Devrae Hudson is an equity centered leader committed to the success of growing racial consciousness in people.  She has provided national staff development on curriculum and team leadership skills. Before Joining the RCC team she served St. Louis Park Public Schools in Minnesota as a Racial Equity Instructional Coach. Devrae has also spent time coaching executive leaders across the Twin Cities.   Her work’s focus has been on racial equity and coaching for improved instruction.

Devrae has over 20 years’ experience teaching elementary school, particularly 4th and 5th grade. Her teaching experience has consistently been coupled with a leadership component around equity and effective instruction. Devrae is a graduate of Spelman College with a B.A. in Child Development and has her M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary’s University of MN. She is a well-respected instructional leader and engages in difficult conversations with grace and authenticity. Students and teachers alike respond well to her passion for racial equity and student achievement, and she skillfully creates space for all voices, including her own.
