About the event
About our Course:
The American Medical Association has deemed racism to be a public health threat. Because racism is pervasive and persistent, it invades our sense of well being in our communities and at work. So, how are you, really? Shaundra Brown, a certified health and wellness consultant, and Founder of wellJoy, a company committed to wellness that centers equity, will join Racially Conscious Collaboration to offer this course. Participants will be challenged to think beyond approaches to health that have traditionally come from trainers that most reflect the race, body type, and culture of the dominant group. In this seminar, wellness focuses on our holistic well-being and uprooting the impact of racism. Wellness coordinators, leaders, employees, and community members will be exposed to a model that moves from the stress cycle to a self-care cycle which is necessary for interrupting the impacts of racism on your well-being. Participants will explore how race and racism impact personal and professional wellness in organizational culture and in society at large. Our goal in this 90 minutes is to create a deeper awareness of how to interrupt social norms and find joy in normalizing self-care to prioritize our personal wellness to sustain the racial equity work that we do!
