About the event

About the Course:

“What we know is this: racism is a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of Americans. As a result, it affects the health of our entire nation. Racism is not just the discrimination against one group based on the color of their skin or their race or ethnicity, but the structural barriers that impact racial and ethnic groups differently to influence where a person lives, where they work, where their children play, and where they worship and gather in community. These social determinants of health have life-long negative effects on the mental and physical health of individuals in communities of color,” Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021.  Racism is pervasive and persistent, and invades our well being in our communities and at work.  So, how are you, really?  Shaundra Brown, a certified health and wellness consultant, and Founder of wellJOY, a company committed to wellness that centers equity, will join Racially Conscious Collaboration to offer this course.  Participants will be challenged to explore new approaches to wellness that honor the whole person, inclusive of race and the racial impacts on our health from society today.  In this wellness seminar we will focus on our holistic well being and uprooting the impact of racism.  Wellness coordinators, participants, and community members will be exposed to new paradigms for interrupting the impacts of racism on your well being.
